Early Friday morning Mike Matusow was seen going broke online at Full Tilt Poker and then asking a perfect stranger for more money.
It happened around 5:15am on Friday morning in the Relic Room on Full Tilt Poker which is a heads up room. Stakes were $100 -$200 NL.
Mike was seen occasionally up to as high as $60,000 (believe he started with around $20K) and was then on quite a rollercoaster of a ride as he fluxuated between $7k and $60K for about an hour.
Mike played a few different opponents in this heads up dual, but was eventually put out by a player known as "tehdrunky".
The final hand went like this... Mike raised preflop with pocket 7's was re-raised by tehdrunky with Ace 10. Mike then re-raised all in. To Mike's dismay tehdrunky out drew him and took the pot which totaled $18,796.50.
Now this hand wouldn't be considered a bad beat by any stretch of the imagination, nor would in normally constitute anyone writing an article on it, except for what transpired after which is what makes this poker session so memorable.
After going bust, Mike sat for a minute and then started to chat with his opponent who apparently doesn't know him personally. Here is the chat log from those last few moments at the table...
Mike Matusow: why am i talkin gto the rail chat off

tehdrunky: sorry mikey dont know you well enough
Mike Matusow: no biggy working on it hang on
tehdrunky: ok no worries, if not i gotta goto bed

Well, needless to say Mike never came back and that ended his session for the night.
Now I'm sure we've all been in a similar situation where we wanted to keep playing, but didn't have the funds to do it, but what makes this so interesting is that isn't Mike sponsored by Full Tilt Poker? And isn't he a millionaire? Didn't he just finish 9th at the 2005 WSOP Main Event?
Now we're not going to be too hard on Mike cause he's openly discussed his legal and financial problems in the past, but asking a perfect stranger for thousands of dollars online to simply play more poker seems a little strange even if you are a fairly well know personality. It indeed caught our attention!
As for Mike... we hope he figures things out and wish him the best of luck in the future, but please Mike... don't ask players at the very site you promote to borrow you money. It looks quite foolish! And plus, you never know who's watching.
Mike Matusow is sponsored by Full Tilt Poker. Play poker now against Mike and help him win back that rent money! Who knows, maybe you'll send him to the rail too.
